On the morning of October 7th, 2019, at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), the Opening Ceremony of the 9th Asian Society of Veterinary Pathology Conference (ASVP 2019) with the theme "New Era of Animal Health: Zoonoses, foodborne, emerging and oncologic diseases” was organized solemnly.

Attending the ceremony, there were Mr. Le Quoc Doanh - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, HE. Mr. Paul Jansen - Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Vietnam, Mr. Richard Shih - Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, Ms. Maria Fatima Phumbe - Minister Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of Mozambique in Vietnam and over 350 delegates from national and international universities, research institutes and laboratories, international organizations, Vietnamese state agencies and more than 40 companies in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary.

From VNUA, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan – ASVP Chair and President of VNUA, representatives of the Board of Trustees, the Presidency Board, leaders of faculties, supportive offices of VNUA, and lecturers, researchers and students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

In his welcome remarks of ASVP 2019, Mr. Le Quoc Doanh affirmed the 9th Asian Society of Veterinary Pathology Conference would be a very practical forum for agencies of governments and experts to exchange the current situations of diseases on animals and share experiences in veterinary medicine in the region and in the world

Deputy Minister also shared that recently, the outbreak of the African swine fever (ASF) epidemic has become complicated in more than 20 countries seriously affecting the world’s livestock industry, including countries with good disease control. Therefore, investments in scientific research in animal husbandry is one of the priorities in many countries. Research results have been utilized in developing and organizing timely and effective measures to prevent and control diseases

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan in her opening speech expressed her sincere thanks to scientists, Vietnamese state agencies, companies, and individuals for their contributions to organization of the 9th ASVP Conference. Professor believed that after this Conference, the scientists could take advantages of the shared knowledge to promote and bring ideas into reality, contributing to solving important issues of veterinary in general and in the field of veterinary diseases in particular in their own countries and also in the world. Prof. Dr. Lan also hoped that through reports and discussions, researchers could generate further development in scientific research and training in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan affirmed that it was a great honor of VNUA to receive the trust of ASVP for handing over the privilege to host the 9th ASVP at the university and also a worthy reward for the contributions of Vietnamese scientists in animal disease prevention and control.

Also in this ceremony, the attendees listened to the report "Overview of the livestock production in Vietnam" presented by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong – Directorate of the Department of Livestock, MARD and "Veterinary network and actual situation of animal diseases in Vietnam" presented by Dr. Nguyen Van Long - Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Health, MARD. The reports highlighted the current situation of animal husbandry as well as the current status of animal diseases in Vietnam. The two reporters expressed their hopes that in ASVP 2019, there would be many shares and solutions to further promote Vietnam's livestock industry which is an important sector of Vietnam's agriculture as well as is an important factor of Vietnam's economy.

ASVP 2019 also featured many world-famous researchers on oncologic diseases on animals and ASF infection such as Dr. Aruna Ambagala from the National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease (NCFAD), Canada of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Dr. Francisco Javier Salguero Bodes from the Center for Public Health England (the United Kingdom), Prof. Dr. Achariya Sailasuta - Former President of ASVP from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), etc.

International scientists expressed their happiness when the 9th ASVP Conference was hosted at Vietnam National University of Agriculture, the leading university in training and providing high-quality human resources in the field of agriculture and rural development. Their reports have given the participants a brief introduction of the world's advanced analytical and diagnostic technology in animal disease detection and prevention.

After the Plenary session, for the scientists to share more in-depth research, the Conference was divided into three breakout sessions on "Animal Pathology”, “Animal health challenges of livestock farming”, and “Emerging diseases”. Each breakout session involved presentations by both Vietnamese and international scientists.
