Achievements in training of Vietnam National University of Agriculture

In March 2014, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed a decision to upgrade Hanoi University of Agriculture to Vietnam National University of Agriculture. This experience encouraged the process of building and developing as the scale of training, staff, and facilities of the university keeps growing. The university now has 14 faculties and many centers for training, education, and scientific research for staff, lecturers, and students.

During the renewal period of the country, the university carried out innovative projects comprehensively and developed to become an advanced multidisciplinary university. The university currently offers training in specialized programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate levels. Besides promoting traditional industries in the field of agricultural sciences, the university has been developing a number of new sectors such as Food Science and Technology, Biotechnology, and Aquaculture, among others. New opportunities for training were also created, including training in an advanced program of Crop Science at the undergraduate level in cooperation with the University of California, Davis (USA), Business Management training in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin (USA), training the Major of Fruits , Vegetables and Landscapes in cooperation with the University of Wagenigen (the Netherlands), and cooperation with the University of Liege (Belgium) in training for an International MsC. in Economics and Rural Sociology.

The University invested in modern equipment for faculties’ labs, especially key laboratories of Veterinary biotechnology, that meet regional and international standards through funding from targeted programs of the Government, Higher Education Project (TRIG), and JICA projects. This achievement of the ISO standard, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, has allowed for many achievements in scientific research and confirms the position of the university in its efforts for continued development.

In order to meet the social needs, every year, the university enrolls nearly 6,000 full-time students at the associate and undergraduate levels, over 1,500 work-study and accreditation students seeking to increase their knowledge, over 1,000 master's students, and nearly 100 fellows. The educational scale of the university has recently reached approximately 40,000 students and fellows. Thanks for the university's high ranking and educational quality, students who have graduated from the university have been received by society and highly evaluated in both basic knowledge and practice capacity. For instance, about 80% of students find a job within 6 months after their graduation. The university is faithful in addressing the recruitment of high-quality human resources in many important sectors such as Animal Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Crop Science, Engineering, Economic Agriculture, Land Management, and Food Science and Technology.

The University is entering into a new development period that will bring many advantages and opportunities, but also difficulties and challenges. Staff, lecturers, and students at Vietnam National University of Agriculture are determined to make the university become a center of education and scientific research for agriculture that is prestigious and contributes to the development of agriculture, rural communities, and farmers in Vietnam.
