Appointment of VNUA’s leader and announcement of a pilot scheme on transformation of VNUA’s operation mechanism in the period of 2015 – 2017

On 22 June 2015, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) solemnly held a ceremony to announce the approval of the Decision issued by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on appointment of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan as Vice President for VNUA’s overall management starting 1st July 2015. Attending this remarkable event were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quoc Doanh, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Vu Tuan Dung, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Party Committee of universities and colleges in Hanoi, representatives from functional departments of the Government Office, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Presidency Board of VNUA, and representative leaders of all units under the university.On behalf of the MARD, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh congratulated Vice President Nguyen Thi Lan and expressed his confidence that she will perform her best capacity to complete all tasks assigned a long with all VNUA’s staff for solidarity, creativity, and notable achievements in the coming period.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lan shared that her new position at the turning point of the university, i.e. application of new autonomous mechanism, will be likely to face full of challenges and difficulties, but she would make her greatest efforts to create unity and best transformation for the university. She especially expressed her sincere thanks to MARD’s leaders, and VNUA’s Presidency Board for their trust on her and promised to try her best to make the university grow stronger and stronger, and fulfill all assigned tasks in response to high expectations and credibility of ministerial leaders and her colleagues at the university.

On this occasion, the Decision issued by the Prime Minister on approving a pilot scheme on transformation of VNUA’s operation mechanism during the period of 2015 – 2017 was officially articulated. Under the Decision, VNUA would be granted autonomy to actively exploit both internal and external resources efficiently, to innovate and improve training and research quality on its efforts to become an internationally and regionally recognized multidisciplinary research based university while ensuring education accessibility for disadvantaged students such as the poor or ethnic minorities.

According to Deputy Minister Doanh, transformation of management mechanism over public institutions is a major policy of the Party and the State, creating a breakthrough in the state management. In order to obtain the overall objective of the scheme, the university should determine its key tasks and proper solutions for its transformation, review and rearrange subordinate units to ensure a streamlined and efficient mechanism, and apply innovative management practices including human resources management to have the best quality improvement.

President of VNUA, Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien also expressed his consent with Ms. Lan to challenges and hardness posed by this transformation; however, he strongly believed that VNUA’s leaders would continue their persistent efforts to overcome all difficulties and keep tradition of solidarity and creativity to obtain new remarkable achievements and maintain the glorious tradition of the university.
