Within the framework of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Week 2026, a delegation from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) participated in the Seminar on Agricultural Product Preservation and Processing Targeting Vietnam, held in Nanning, China, from 28 to 30 March 2026. The seminar served as a valuable academic platform for scientific exchange, technology updates, and future collaboration in the fields of postharvest preservation and agricultural product processing between Vietnamese and Chinese institutions.

The event was hosted by the Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GXAAS) and brought together scientists, experts, research institutes, and higher education institutions working in agriculture, with particular emphasis on postharvest technology, preservation and processing of agro-products, and technology transfer. Representing VNUA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy and M.Sc. Nguyen Trong Thang from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology actively engaged in academic discussions, shared research experience, and explored opportunities for cooperation with Chinese counterparts.

GXAAS is one of the leading agricultural research institutions in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with recognized strengths in applied agricultural research, plant breeding, cultivation techniques, plant protection, crop nutrition, preservation and processing technologies, quality and safety assurance, and agricultural economics. With its extensive network of research institutes, experimental stations, key laboratories, and international partnerships, GXAAS is regarded as a promising partner for advancing collaborative research, training, and technology transfer with Vietnamese agricultural universities and research institutions.

Following the opening session, the thematic presentation session took place on the morning of 29 March 2026, chaired by Prof. Lyu Ronghua. Presentations addressed a range of timely topics with strong practical relevance to agricultural product preservation and processing. Highlights included the current status of fruit preservation and processing technologies in Guangxi; Valorization of purple passion fruit peel for the development of functional pectin-alginate coatings; Efficient logistics and preservation technologies for subtropical fruits; Energy-saving drying technologies to improve product quality; An overview of research on sugarcane deep processing; and the application of chitosan-silver nanoparticle composite materials in postharvest fruit preservation.

Notably, the seminar also featured presentations by Vietnamese scientists from Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, Bac Giang Agriculture and Forestry University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade… Their contributions focused on issues closely linked to the practical needs of agricultural production, preservation, and processing in Vietnam. This strong academic presence reflected the growing research capacity, international engagement, and proactive spirit of collaboration among Vietnamese scientists in global scientific forums.

The thematic presentation session on 29 March 2026 on postharvest preservation, agricultural processing technologies, and prospects for Vietnam-China scientific cooperation

On the afternoon of the same day, the Vietnamese delegates visited Guangxi Bingke Food Co., Ltd. and Guangxi Agricultural Gia Hoa Co., Ltd. During the field visit, participants were introduced to the companies’ production scale, preliminary processing technologies, and processing systems for fruit and vegetable products serving both domestic and export markets. The visit offered an opportunity to connect scientific research with industrial practice and provided useful insights into current trends in agro-processing and market-oriented technology application.

Participation in the seminar brought important practical benefits to the lecturers and researchers of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, VNUA. It provided timely access to emerging technological trends in agricultural product preservation and processing, particularly solutions aimed at reducing postharvest losses, increasing added value, and promoting the effective utilization of agricultural by-products. At the same time, the seminar created a meaningful platform for researchers from both sides to exchange findings, compare scientific approaches, and identify areas for more substantive cooperation in the future.

At a time when regional agriculture is under increasing pressure to move beyond raw commodity production toward deep processing, value-chain development, and greater competitiveness, the sharing of scientific knowledge between research and training institutions is becoming ever more important. Academic exchange not only facilitates the dissemination of new knowledge and technologies, but also helps bridge the gap between research and application, foster innovation, and build sustainable cooperation networks.

Discussions at the seminar highlighted the strong potential for cooperation between Vietnam National University of Agriculture and the Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, particularly in the field of agricultural preservation and processing. Promising areas of collaboration include research on preservation and processing technologies for tropical agricultural products; the utilization of agricultural by-products for value-added products; the development of biological materials and preparations for postharvest application; academic and researcher exchange; joint postgraduate training; and the formulation of collaborative science and technology programs and projects.

VNUA’s participation in the seminar in Nanning further affirms the University’s role, standing, and international orientation in agricultural science. It also marks an important step toward expanding academic cooperation networks, enhancing the quality of research, training, and technology transfer, and contributing to the development of a modern, efficient, and sustainable agricultural sector.

The seminar provided a valuable opportunity for scientists from both sides to exchange research results, share new scientific and technological advances in postharvest preservation and agricultural product processing, and identify concrete directions for future cooperation in research, training, and technology transfer.
