Ceremony of Planting Tree in celebration of Tan Suu Lunar New Year 2021 and supporting the calling for the 1 billion Tree Program in the period of 2021-2025

On the morning of 27 February 2021, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) solemnly held the Ceremony of Planting Tree in celebration of Tan Suu Lunar New Year 2021 and supporting the calling for the 1 billion Tree Program in the period of 2021-2025, initiated by the Prime Minister and realized in Directive No. 45, with nearly 700 million trees scattered in urban and rural areas, and more than 300 million trees planted in the concentrated forest.

Speaking at the Ceremony, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong emphasized that following the instruction of President Ho Chi Minh, “Spring is the tree planting season, which makes the country more and more beautiful", over the past 60 years, “Planting tree festival is eternally grateful to Uncle Ho" has become a good tradition of the nation, starting the annual acts of planting trees and forests, protecting forests, protecting the environment of all levels, branches and our people.

The Minister said that the regular organization of the tree planting and tree protection festival of VNUA is a very meaningful activity, especially when it took place at the origin of the education, scientific research and technology transfer in the field of agriculture and rural development. He also praised the continuous effort of the officials, staff, employees and students of VNUA develop a sustainable greenness, by creating a green campus with thousands of trees, ornamental flower plants with hundreds of species, many of which are rare plants with scientific, environmental and ecological protection value…

Planting trees is just a beginning, while it is essential to protect, preserve and care for the plant to grow well, and in addition regularly supplement and plant new trees. The Minister required VNUA to continue implementing the tree planting plan, especially the plan to grow 5,000 new trees within the campus of VNUA to create the "green lung" of Hanoi City.

On this occasion, VNUA also held a contest “Learning about the planting tree festival” for students of VNUA and pupils at 11 and 12-grade in the form of online survey with the participation of nearly 3,000 contestants. The Organization Committee found out the contestants with the most correct answers to award the prize. The first prize went to Ngoc Van Tuyen, student of K62CNTPC of Food Science and Technology Faculty. Due to the impact from the Covid-19 epidemic, VNUA will organize the award ceremony after the students return to study.

At the ceremony, delegates and students participated in planting trees at the Vietnam Bamboo Conservation Area. Bamboo is a familiar tree in the countryside and is a meaningful  cultural symbol in Vietnam. Bamboo has a close connection with the life of people from the period of building and defending the country until present day. The bamboo trees do not only make a great contribution to serving our daily life, but also deserve to be a traditional cultural symbol, acutely showing the character and good qualities of the Vietnamese. A lot of handicraft products, aesthetics, utensils, food, beverage, musical instruments, furniture ... from Vietnamese bamboo have been exported to international markets, which helps promote the brand of the high quality products of Vietnam.

The Vietnam Bamboo Reservation Area established by VNUA is not only of ecological humane significance but also of important scientific value to preserve the genetic resources of bamboo of Vietnam; enabling scientists and students to research, conserve and develop the genetic resources of rare and indigenous bamboo species of our country.
