Delegates from the Murdoch Commission visited Vietnam National University of Agriculture

On 16 June 2015, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Trach, Vice President of Vietnam National University Agriculture (VNUA) together with representative leaders of faculties and research centers warmly welcomed a delegation from the Murdoch Commission, led by Commission Co-Chair, Professor Mely Caballero Anthony. Joining with the Murdoch delegation were Japanese, Singaporean, and Australian scientists.

The Murdoch Commission is based at Murdoch University, one of the most prestigious universities in Australia with highly qualified training and research and receiving high satisfaction from students. The Murdoch Commission seeks to develop greater understanding among nations, especially in the Asian region, and to address common policy questions and issues that cross national borders.

At the meeting, the two sides shared general overview of history, development process, goals and development strategies of the two institutions. Their discussion particularly focused on food security and related issues in Vietnam for example the role of Vietnam and its perception about the role of ASEAN, ASEAN +3, and APEC in addressing the emerging challenges of food security in the Asian region, and pressing issues of sustainable development, natural resources management in relation with food security in Vietnam.

End of the meeting, the Murdoch Commission Co-Chair Professor Mely Caballero Anthony on behalf of the delegation expressed her sincere thanks to the university for a warm welcome. She highly appreciated sharing by VNUA and stated that such information would be synthesized for their working reports on food security in the Asian region.
