Freshwater Fisheries Conference among Hungary-Laos-Vietnam

On November 14-15, 2022, Faculty of Fisheries, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), collaborated with two strong research groups of the Faculty, Lao Department of Livestock and Fisheries, and Vitafort Agro Asia ltd of Hungary to successfully organize the Freshwater Fisheries Conference among three countries, Hungary, Laos, and Vietnam.
On November 14-15, 2022, Faculty of Fisheries, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), collaborated with two strong research groups of the Faculty, Lao Department of Livestock and Fisheries, and Vitafort Agro Asia ltd of Hungary to successfully organize the Freshwater Fisheries Conference among three countries, Hungary, Laos, and Vietnam.
Attending the conference, there were Dr. Kaviphone Phouthavong, Vice Director of the Lao Department of Livestock and Fisheries; Dr. Akhane Phomsouvanh, Deputy Director, Division of Fisheries Department, Lao Department of Livestock and Fisheries; Dr. Laszlo Varadi, CEO of Vitafort Agro Asia ltd- Hungary; and Dr. Istvan Lenart, Hungary-Laos Project Manager. From the Faculty of Fisheries, VNUA, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kim Van Van, Dean of the Faculty; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Dinh Hoai, Vice Dean of the Faculty; and representatives of scientists from Laos National University of Agriculture, enterprises, and aquaculture households in Vientiane.
The conference contained 10 presentations on freshwater aquaculture techniques and technologies in Vietnam, disease management, feed technology, tilapia genetics and productivity improvement, seafood supply chain, and the current situation of fisheries development of Vietnam, Laos and Hungary. The conference also carried out field trips to freshwater fish farms in Laos and exchanged farming techniques, water treatment, health management, and cooperation and development directions among the three countries.
In the coming time, the Lao Department of Livestock and Fisheries and the farm owners in Laos will pay some visits to learn aquaculture development experiences in Vietnam. The conference ended successfully, opening up many directions for cooperation and exchange on human resource training, scholarships and sharing of experiences in developing freshwater fisheries among the three countries.
