A state-level project on “Biological Technology and Production Models of Free Disease Potatoes, Vegetables and Flowers" led by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thach, Institute of Agro-Biology, Vietnam National University of Agriculture has obtained remarkable results. According to Prof. Dr Thach, the application of aeroponic and hydroponic technologies helped preceding plant multiplying processes for example in producing potato bulbs, these technology helped producing 7480-8624 plants/m2/month (far exceeding targets of 1000 to 1500 plants/m2/month). The bulb yield also reached from 835 to 1016 bulbs/m2 (varying by varieties), which was higher than the expected (1000 bulbs/m2). It is notably noted that plants and bulbs were 100% free of diseases. Further, the plants could generate 30% higher productivity in comparison with those applied traditional methods.VNUA Students took part in the 36th Future Farmers of Thailand

From 08 to 15 February 2015, 3 students and one official at the International Cooperation Office, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) took part in the 36th Future Farmers of Thailand (the 36th FFT), an annual vocational education program in agricultural science for Thailand students under the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn – Thailand’s Royal Patronage. The 36th FFT also drew participation of students from many other countries in the Asian region including China, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. On 17 Jan 2015, Vietnam National University of Agriculture held a Workshop on Agricultural Restructuring of Vietnam: From Policy to Practice.Attending the Workshop were Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, member of the Political Bureau and Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Mr. Nguyen Quan, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Phan Xuan Dung, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Deputy Chairman of the Central Economic Commission, Mr. Le Quoc Doanh, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Dang Huy Dong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, experts, researchers, policy makers, and representatives from relevant national agencies, and organizations.Opening the workshop, Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien, President of VNUA stated that agricultural restructuring should lead to a high-tech agriculture and intellectual rural development. He added that in order to realize goals of the agricultural restructuring, restructuring in agricultural education and training, in science and technology management, and in institutional governance must be pushed ahead. The agricultural restructuring must be reorganization of production for farmers rather than a sole structural change in varieties and breeding, and economic cooperation should be a key factor, he emphasized. According to him, "Economic cooperation is not purely merging fields but encouraging cooperation in production. Promotion in science and technology in agriculture is substantially important too. On 18 Dec 2014, Dr. Fedor Vasilievich Ivanovich, an academician of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (RAAS), Director of the Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after KI Skriabin leading a delegation including representatives from academic institutions and companies in the fields of veterinary medicine and plant breeding officially visited Vietnam National University of Agriculture. Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Thi Lan, VNUA Vice President for International Affairs along with representative leaders of the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Biotechnology and the Office of International Cooperation warmly welcomed the delegation.At the meeting, in addition to general information on training and research capacity especially in the fields of agriculture and veterinary medicine, the two sides discussed mutual interests for developing Protocols between Vietnam and Russia for example reproductive technologies, parasites and infectious diseases of dairy cattle, and biotechnology and plant breeding. The two sides further confirmed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding soon.
