On March 28, 2025, the Faculty of Fisheries, Vietnam National University of Agriculture had the honor of welcoming Professor Patrick Kestemont from the University of Namur, Belgium for his working visit at VNUA. During his visit, both sides had a productive discussion on potential research activities and scientific cooperation within the framework of the ARES-CCD project, Belgium.

Attending the welcome meeting were faculty members, researchers, and PhD students from the faculty. Associate Professor Dr. Kim Van Van, Dean of the Faculty, delivered a welcoming speech then Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Nang Thu presented an overview of the current status of the Fisheries Research Group (R4), offering a comprehensive view of the ongoing projects and the future development directions.

Results of some research projects were also introduced. The heads of seven major research projects and PhD students had very interesting presentations on the overview of the objectives, research methods, and expected results. Follow up discussions on research activities, and necessary adjustments were opened for participants. Additionally, both sides discussed the possibilities of organizing scientific joint workshops which are expected to provide a venue for scientists to expand their networks, share research results, and explore new collaborations. Finally, the two sides discussed plans for expert exchanges between research areas in Vietnam and Belgium. These business trips will contribute to promoting practical cooperation and enhancing research capabilities.

The visit by Professor Patrick Kestemont from the University of Namur was a great opportunity of opening up joint research collaboration between the Faculty of Fisheries, Vietnam National University of Agriculture and the University of Namur, Belgium. Both sides committed to continuing to strengthen cooperation, improve research quality, and make a positive contribution to the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector.
