On July 16, a delegation from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) led by Deputy Minister Tran Duy Dong attended the Seminar: “Experiences in agricultural development in Taiwan and recommendations for Vietnam” sharing experiences in agricultural development in Taiwan, promote cooperation in training, scientific research and discuss recommendations for agricultural development in Vietnam.

 

Participating in the seminar were comrades Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment (MPI); Nguyen Van Doan, Director of the Department of Agricultural Economics, MPI; Bui Thu Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Enterprise Development, MPI ; Prof. Dr. Thai Dong Soan, National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, Advisor to the High-tech Agriculture Project, MPI; Ngo Pham Tran, Chairman of the Vietnam - Taiwan Association; Tang Cat Hong, CEO of the Taiwan Agricultural Cooperative. From VNUA, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Ngoc Huyen, Vice Chairman of University Council, Vice President; Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong, Vice President. In addition, the seminar also received the attendance from leaders of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Taiwanese experts; leaders of the faculties, functional offices, center and research Institutes.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong expressed his delight at receiving the delegation of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Taiwanese experts to visit and participate in the Seminar. Prof. Dr. Cuong stated that VNUA has been cooperating with nearly 200 partners around the world to carry out scientific research, innovation, and human resource training activities such as JICA, Koica, International Rice Research Institute, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, ACIAR International Agricultural Research Center, research institutes, universities of Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Korea, Denmark, Taiwan etc. In the period of 2011-2020, VNUA signed 10 memorandums of understanding on cooperation in science, technology and training with 09 universities in Taiwan including Formosa University, Chung Hsing University, Changhua University, Minghsin University of Science and Technology.

He emphasized that Prof. Dr. Thai Dong Soan has many research projects in agriculture, especially in the field of cultivation and plant protection. The professor also has extensive experience in managing, implementing, and applying technical advances to agricultural production in Taiwan. Therefore, today's seminar plays an important role, providing recommendations to contribute to building a creative agricultural ecosystem, increasing added value and competitiveness for Vietnamese agricultural products and food.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Duy Dong emphasized that the development of the agricultural sector in Taiwan has many outstanding advantages with favorable conditions and characteristics similar to those of Vietnamese agriculture. Prof. Dr. Thai Dong Soan is a person with many research works and is currently an advisor for the High-tech Agriculture Project of MPI. The professor has consecutive years of experience in consulting on agricultural development policies for Taiwan. Deputy Minister Tran Duy Dong hopes that the seminar will be the forum to all participants to actively exchange and discuss issues on agricultural development in Vietnam. The MPI will continue to advise and propose the government to issue Decrees to continue implementing programs and projects to help Vietnam's agricultural sector develop more and more sustainably.

Prof. Dr. Thai Dong Soan shared experiences in agricultural development in Taiwan and presented some recommendations for Vietnam to further develop agriculture in the coming time. Prof. Dr. Thai Dong Soan thanked VNUA for the thoughtful and warm welcome. He hoped that VNUA and National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan will cooperate more closely in training and scientific research, especially in the field of agriculture. He added that two sides will continue to cooperate and National Chung Hsing University will propose projects to support finance for VNUA students to Taiwan and long-term projects on developing high-tech agriculture and sustainable agriculture in the coming time.

After the seminar, the delegation visited some VNUA affiliates. They discussed and agreed to cooperate closely in training, scientific research and share experiences in organizing programs and projects that the two sides are interested and can cooperate in the future.
