To implement the science and technology development and international cooperation strategy until 2030 linking research results and international cooperation with the practice of land management, natural resources and environment management, real estate management, environmental sciences, and soil sciences, contributing to the development of the natural resources and environment sector, and the agriculture and rural development sectors of Vietnam. Recently, the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment (FONRE) has promoted linkages in scientific research activities and exchange of students and lecturers with universities in several countries in the region and around the world. These activities aim at cooperative exchange of research in training, science and technology, and transfer into the practical production of VNUA and the Faculty.
On November 9-10, 2024, respecting the invitation of the Institute of Geography, University of Hildesheim, Federal Republic of Germany, a delegation from the FONRE, comprising Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Phuong - Dean, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Huu Cong - Vice Dean, had an official working visit to the Institute of Geography, University of Hildesheim, Federal Republic of Germany. From the Institute of Geography, Prof. Dr. Martin Sauerwein, Director of the Institute, along with lecturers, research staff, and doctoral students warmly welcomed and worked with FONRE – VNUA’s delegation.

Before the official signing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Phuong - Dean of the FONRE, provided a general introduction to the faculty, its achievements and activities across various training programs (Undergraduate, Postgraduate); human resources, departments within the Faculty, and research directions of the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Huu Cong presented the results in training, scientific research, international cooperation, as well as the transfer of science and technology into practical production, aligned with the research training orientation in the field of natural resources and environment in general and environmental science in particular. The leaders of the Institute of Geography introduced the laboratories and facilities of the Institute, and found the similarities between the FONRE and the Institute of Geography in the areas of training, research, and technology transfer, which may be highly potential for cooperation in the coming time.

Prof. Dr. Martin Sauerwein introduced the Institute of Geography and the ongoing research at the Institute, as well as the collaboration with the FONRE - VNUA in recent times. Prof. Dr. Martin Sauerwein further expressed his desire to continue deeper and broader cooperation with the FONRE-VNUA in the coming time, so that both sides can support each other in research as well as academic exchanges between lecturers and students of the two units. The meeting took place in a friendly cooperative spirit, sharing clear cooperation directions for the future.

Both parties agreed on the following areas of cooperation: 1) Exchange of faculty, research staff, and students to conduct research at each other's educational institutions, 2) Collaboration on scientific research, field studies, and publications, 3) Cooperation in short-term training programs and organization of summer courses, 4) Other related activities. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed with a duration of 5 years (2024 - 2029) and can be extended by mutual agreement in subsequent years.
