On February 12, 2019, VNUA’s President Nguyen Thi Lan welcomed Prof. Peter J. Coloe, Vice Chancellors of the RMIT University Council, Vice President of RMIT University, Australia, on the occasion of his visit to Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) to discuss the development of research and training cooperation programs with VNUA. Welcoming the delegation were also Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, and representatives of the International Cooperation Office, Science and Technology Office, Training Management Office, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Animal Science and Center for Market and Institutional Research in Agriculture. 

 

That was the second visit to VNUA of Prof. Peter J. Coloe. In this meeting, representatives of VNUA’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Animal Science and RMIT Vice President had an open discussion about the accreditation of training quality, development of training programs and assurance of student academic output standards, etc. Via the discussion, VNUA leaders proposed the major collaboration contents in the near future between the two parties, including:  (1) Invite RMIT’s professors to VNUA deliver technical trainings and transfer technology of using modern laboratories to lecturers and technicians at VNUA as soon as the project sponsored by World bank provides facilities and equipment to VNUA; (2) Send VNUA’s technicians and researchers to do research and participate in in-depth courses at RMIT for several months up to a year to learn new technological advances; (3) Translate and revise training materials of the strong training programs of RMIT so as to apply them to VNUA, especially paying attention to combine training with research; (3) Hire or recruit RMIT's management specialist to provide advice and share experiences with VNUA on university management, enterprises linkage, market connectivity, and technology incubation, etc. Moreover, President Nguyen Thi Lan also proposed the potential of developing dual degree training programs 2+2 or 3+1 between the two universities to RMIT’s Vice President, Prof Peter J. Coloe, and suggested that RMIT could offer short-term scholarships for VNUA’s students to study or do internships in Australia for 3-6 months. 

 

At the end of the meeting, President Nguyen Thi Lan thanked Prof. Peter J. Coloe for his visit and discussion with VNUA. It is expected that RMIT University and VNUA will continue sharing and exchanging useful information and look for funding in order to develop strong collaboration in both research and training between the two universities.
