Vietnam and the Kingdom of Belgium remains a good traditional relationship since the two countries established diplomatic relations on 22nd March 1973.

In the field of agriculture, the cooperation partnership between Vietnamese universities and Belgian universities has made great contributions to the development of Vietnam's agriculture and rural development over the past years.

Vietnam National University of Agriculture - VNUA (formerly Hanoi Agricultural University) established the collaboration with Belgian universities through the Institutional Cooperation Program funded by the French-speaking University Council since 1997. Over the past 20 years, VNUA has developed the comprehensive cooperation in terms of research, training and technology transfer with many Belgian partners in the fields of animal sciences, veterinary medicine, food science and technology, agriculture, sociology and rural development.

At present, VNUA has signed the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and founded stratergic partnership with almost prestigious universities and institutions in Belgium such as University of Liège, KU Leuven, University of Namur, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Ghent University, Catholic University of Louvain, etc. The international cooperation activities have been very diversified including staff and student exchanges, visiting scholars, joint research projects, joint training programs, joint organization of conferences, workshops, seminars, short term training courses, internships, etc.
