On the afternoon of October 22, 2024, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP Vietnam) organized a training on intellectual property.

The training on intellectual property at VNUA

Attending training were Ms. Vu Thi Thao, officer of the Legal and Policy Department, IP Vietnam; Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong, VNUA Vice President, and representative leaders of functional offices, faculties and affiliates. Speaking at the training, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong said that with the motto "Scientific research is the vitality of the university", VNUA has implemented various policies to promote scientific and technological activities. VNUA has established 48 core research groups in diversified fields such as: crop science, plant protection, soil science, land management, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, aquaculture, resource management, environment, food technology, economic management, rural development, accounting, business administration, mechanics, electricity, biotechnology, technical pedagogy. However, VNUA has been encountering numerous issues of protecting intellectual property rights, copyright in general and commercializing research results in particular, slowing down the application of scientific and technological products and production practices.

The reality shows that scientists' understanding of the establishment of patent registration rights for scientific research products and the allocation of profits after research results commercialized and protected is not good enough and comprehensive; therefore, the training was intended to provide VNUA staff with basic issues of intellectual property, patent registration, industrial property rights, management methods and profit sharing from technology commercialization.

He also hopes that in the coming time, VNUA continues to cooperate with the IP Vietnam to timely update new IP policies and corresponding guidance. He further expected that participants in the training will acquire practical professional knowledge to apply immediately in their daily work.
