On April 13-14, 2026, in Beijing, China, a delegation from Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), led by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, VNUA’s President and Secretary of the Party Committee, held a working session with China Agricultural University, attended the Vietnam–China Forum on Higher Education Cooperation, Science, Technology and Innovation, and met with several partners to further promote international cooperation.
China Agricultural University (CAU) was one of China’s leading higher education institutions in the fields of agriculture and related disciplines. The university maintained a substantial academic scale and a well-developed institutional ecosystem encompassing education, research, and international collaboration. With its strong scholarly reputation and research capacity, CAU offered considerable potential for strategic, in-depth, and long-term cooperation with VNUA.
The VNUA delegation held a working session with the leadership of CAU to discuss strategic directions for cooperation, sign a memorandum of understanding, and facilitate linkages between the respective academic units of both institutions with recognized strengths in education, scientific research, innovation, and rural development. The two universities also discussed an overarching framework for collaboration in several key areas, including support for the establishment of the “VNUA Center of Excellence for China Rural Transformation Studies” and the “CAU Hub for Country and Region Studies in Vietnam”; joint implementation of the “Global South Rural Entrepreneurs Initiative”; exchange programs for faculty members, students, and researchers; co-organization of seminars, roundtable discussions, and academic forums; and the sharing of research outcomes, educational achievements, and other academic activities.

The delegation visited and held a working session with the College of International Development and Global Agriculture (CIDGA), a unit under CAU. CIDGA had strong expertise in international development studies, global governance, agricultural and rural transformation, poverty reduction, and green development. The meeting opened up opportunities for academic cooperation, the organization of short-term training programs, scientific workshops, and policy research initiatives.

As part of the working program, VNUA’s delegation visited the College of Engineering, the Research Center for Unmanned Systems Equipment, and the “Doctor Farm” model in Pinggu (under CAU) to conduct a practical survey on mechanization, digital agriculture, unmanned systems, smart farming models, soil improvement, ecological agriculture, and the organization of high-quality agricultural production. This served as a practical model for VNUA to draw upon in developing academic programs in modern and organic agriculture, establishing practice-oriented training models, promoting research and technology transfer for agricultural production and environmental protection, and strengthening collaboration with agritech enterprises.

President Nguyen Thi Lan attended the Vietnam–China Forum on Higher Education Cooperation, Science, Technology and Innovation, held at Tsinghua University. The forum was honored to welcome General Secretary and State President To Lam, who visited and delivered a policy speech. The forum provided an opportunity for VNUA to showcase its capacity, standing, development orientation, and demand for international cooperation in the new period with Chinese universities, research institutes, and enterprises.

The VNUA delegation also visited the iCenter of Tsinghua University. This center for innovation, creativity, and fabrication was often regarded as the “MIT of China.” It was equipped with modern facilities and advanced equipment that enabled students to engage in practical training, undertake engineering projects, and pursue entrepreneurship and innovation in fields such as science and technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, economics and management, and creative arts. At the center, students were provided with opportunities for hands-on learning, internships, innovation, and start-up activities with financial support from the government. As part of the program, the delegation also held a working session with China Education Group Holdings Limited. The two sides exchanged views, discussed, and specified potential areas for formal cooperation in Chinese language education and related disciplines for students and workers, with the aim of developing high-quality human resources to meet the future needs of Chinese and Vietnamese enterprises.

The working visit of VNUA delegation to China was highly successful, opening up many opportunities and broad cooperation programs between China Agricultural University, Chinese education enterprises, and VNUA in the coming period. These partnerships aimed to advance the development of a research university, train high-quality human resources, conduct policy research on rural development, promote agricultural mechanization and digitalization, and develop agricultural models linked to rural development in the new era.
