On July 14, 2023, the Governor of Nebraska and the University of Nebraska Omaha, USA had a working visit at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). In this meeting, VNUA and the University of Nebraska Omaha, USA, also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further strengthen the cooperation between the two sides.

Attending the program were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Secretary of the Party Committee, VNUA’s President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Long, Director of the International Cooperation Department, VNUA; Mr. Jim Pillen, Governor of Nebraska; Ms. Joanne Li, Chancellor of the University of Nebraska Omaha, USA; the delegation of Nebraska State and the delegation of the University of Nebraska Omaha, USA; and leaders of VNUA’s faculties and departments.

Speaking at the program, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Secretary of the Party Committee, VNUA’s President, expressed her honor to welcome the delegation of the State of Nebraska and the University of Nebraska Omaha at the university and said that VNUA was ready to cooperate with partners in the United States in general, and the state of Nebraska and the University of Nebraska Omaha in particular. VNUA believed that expanding and strengthening exchanges and cooperation in training and research would be of mutual value to both sides. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan hoped that the memorandum of understanding between VNUA and the University of Nebraska Omaha would be feasible, quickly turning the potential of cooperation between the two sides into specific actions and activities. President Nguyen Thi Lan also hoped that the Governor of Nebraska would assist VNUA’s students in finding scholarship opportunities and internship opportunities at businesses and farms in Nebraska State.

Mr. Jim Pillen, Governor of Nebraska State thanked VNUA for the thoughtful and warm welcome, through which he also wished that VNUA would create favorable conditions, together with the University of Nebraska Omaha, USA, to coordinate more closely in research cooperation, exchange of staff, students and other forms of scientific and educational cooperation between the two sides. He also emphasized that the United States and Vietnam had an increasingly active and comprehensive cooperative relationship, which had developed into a solid partnership in the fields of politics, economy, security, and exchanges between people of the two countries. The United States was a country with a leading education system in the world, a flexible and diverse education system and advanced teaching methods. The Governor of Nebraska wished to receive many Vietnamese students and especially students from VNUA to study and work at the State of Nebraska.

Dr. Joanne Li, Chancellor of the University of Nebraska Omaha, USA, briefly introduced the University of Nebraska Omaha, a public research university located in Omaha, Nebraska. Founded in 1908, the University of Neraska in Omaha now offers a wide range of majors from bachelors to doctorate to 15,000 students. The school's training programs are diverse in the fields of tourism, computer science, law, health, education, engineering and business. The school was ranked 501-600 US College Ranking according to THE rankings in 2022. The school has a number of disciplines similar to VNUA such a biotechnology, economics, accounting, environment, sociology, information technology, and business administration. Dr. Joanne Li hoped that in the near future there would be many meaningful cooperation in education, training, and scientific research between VNUA and the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Also at the meeting, VNUA and the University of Nebraska Omaha, the United States, signed an extension of the memorandum of understanding under the witness of the Governor of Nebraska to further strengthen the cooperation between the two universities in many fields of training, scientific research, and student exchange.

 

Nebraska is a state in the Great Plains and Midwest region of the United States. Nebraska is bordered by South Dakota to the north, Iowa to the east, Missouri to the southeast, Kansas to the south, Colorado to the southwest, and Wyoming to the west. The state has a total area of more than 200,000 km² and a population of about 1.9 million people. The state capital is Lincoln and the most populous city is Omaha, located on the Missouri River.

There are more than 50,000 farms there, focusing on products such as corn, beef, soybeans, and processed grain products, etc.

According to data from the Department of Economic Research, the US Department of Agriculture, in 2019, Nebraska was the state with the third largest agricultural revenue in the country after California and Iowa. Nebraska's agricultural value in 2019 was about 21.5 billion USD, accounting for more than 5.8% of the entire US’s agricultural value.
