On March 23, 2026, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) welcomed a delegation from the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), led by Ms. Siboniso Moyo, Deputy Director General for Research, Partnerships, and Impact. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong, VNUA Vice President, with the participation of representatives from relevant affiliates.
In his welcome remarks, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong expressed his pleasure in receiving the high-level ILRI delegation, considering this visit as an important milestone in promoting and strengthening the relationship between the two sides. He also highlighted the cooperation outcomes achieved in recent years and expressed his expectation that both sides will continue to build on these achievements, expand collaboration, and enhance its effectiveness in the future.

On behalf of ILRI, Ms. Siboniso Moyo expressed her sincere thanks to the warm reception of the university. Representing the delegation, she introduced ILRI’s mandate, strategies and mission and objectives at the global level, as well as in Asia and Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, Regional Director for Asia, ILRI Asia, shared the outcomes of VNUA and IRLI partnership. He emphasized that many lecturers and scientists from VNUA have been effectively collaborating with ILRI, and affirmed that VNUA is an important partner, providing highly qualified experts in the fields of livestock, veterinary science, and One Health for ILRI.

The two sides discussed key areas of collaborations, including exchange of staff, training of graduate student, developing joint research project and publishing international scientific papers. They also shared challenges in accessing international funding sources, and highly agreed on the need to strengthen joint efforts in developing proposals to mobilize domestic funding, particularly when new policies prioritizing on science and technology of the Vietnamese Government have been effective.
At the same time, both sides agreed to prioritize research addressing major challenges facing Hanoi, such as food safety, environmental protection, and emissions reduction in livestock production toward achieving net-zero emissions. In addition, economic, social, and institutional aspects aimed at sustainable development were identified as shared research priorities.
Concluding the meeting, ILRI leader expressed strong appreciation for the proposed areas of cooperation and the university’s initiatives. Both sides agreed to maintain and further strengthen their existing partnership. Based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) expected to be signed on March 24, 2026, they will continue to expand and deepen collaborative activities in the coming period.
