Distinguished guests attending the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty of Information Technology.
The ceremony began with an opening speech by Dr. Pham Quang Dung, Party Secretary and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, who reviewed the key milestones of the Faculty’s formation and development. The Faculty of Information Technology originated from the Departments of Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics under the Faculty of Technical Education (now the Faculty of Tourism and Foreign Languages), starting to offer Informatics as a degree program in 2002. On October 10, 2005, the Rector of Hanoi University of Agriculture No. I (now VNUA) issued a decision to officially establish the Faculty of Information Technology based on these three departments. Over 20 years of growth, the Faculty developed from its initial founding members to a team of 50 staff members, including 9 PhDs, 33 MScs, and 8 Bachelors/Engineers, working across 5 academic departments and 1 administrative-technical unit.
In gratitude for and continuation of the traditions established by previous generations, the Faculty had been striving to successfully fulfill all assigned tasks:
Education and Training
Since its first cohort, the Faculty expanded its academic programs to serve over 3,000 students and currently offers three undergraduate majors: Information Technology, Computer Networks and Data Communications, and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Notably, since 2014–2015, the Faculty had also offered a Master’s program in Information Technology, designed to meet the demands of research and digital development. Nearly 2,000 graduates from FITA entered the workforce, with approximately 90% employment in relevant fields. Alumni went on to hold key positions in leading technology corporations such as FPT, Viettel, and Samsung, or become accomplished managers and researchers.
Scientific Research and Innovation
FITA established two strong research groups: Big Data and Digital Transformation and Software Development and Intelligent Systems, established under the direction of VNUA’s President, bringing together highly qualified scientists and lecturers with a passion for research, with the goal of implementing the university’s digital transformation initiatives. The Faculty’s lecturers led over 100 scientific research projects and organized more than 100 academic workshops at various levels, publishing nearly 300 scientific papers, many in prestigious international journals. The student research movement also flourished, with nearly 100 student research projects and creative ideas, several of which won high awards in innovation and student scientific competitions and outstanding student research contests organized by VNUA, contributing to the formation of a dynamic, innovative young generation ready to meet the demands of industry transformation.
In addition, the Faculty developed and implemented various software applications to support teaching and student management, such as the Faculty’s student management system, automatic grading software, computer-based testing software, and other learning support systems, which weere widely applied across the Faculty and the university.
International and Enterprises Cooperation
FITA had established strong international cooperation with leading universities such as the University of L’Aquila and the University of Parma (Italy), and close partnerships with technology enterprises like 1C Vietnam, NIC, GoGroup, and BingoGlobal, etc. in Vietnam to support student internships, research, and employment opportunities.
Student Recruitment Promotion and the Entrepreneurship Movement
Since 2023, under the direction of VNUA’s Presidency Board, the Faculty had organized outreach and entrepreneurship programs at high schools in Lao Cai and Ha Giang provinces, which had received strong recognition and helped enhance the university’s reputation while fostering entrepreneurial spirit among students.
Over 20 years, FITA had exemplified VNUA’s educational philosophy of “Professionalism – Creativity – Integration – Responsibility”, built upon solidarity, innovation, and relentless effort. Moving forward, the Faculty of Information Technology would remain a firm foundation nurturing future generations of talented engineers and experts, contributing to the development of a digital, modern, and sustainable agriculture in Vietnam.
At the ceremony, Dr. Pham Quang Dung launched a new emulation campaign for the academic year, expressing heartfelt gratitude to VNUA’s Party Committee, Presidency Board, staff, alumni, and students for their contributions to FITA’s achievements, which also serves as a foundation for the Faculty’s sustainable development in the coming years.
