Professor Lan recognizes the demanding nature of scientific research and the amplified challenges faced by women. She mentors aspiring female researchers, sharing her own journey of balancing her professional and personal lives.

Under her leadership, and through the World Bank–financed Support for Autonomous Higher Education Project (SAHEP), VNUA has made remarkable strides in inclusion. Today, over half of the university’s female staff are active in research at all levels. Under SAHEP, female-led research collaboration projects approved and launched per year at VNUA increased from 26% in 2019 to 61% in 2022.

Scientific research is the lifeblood of the university. Women researchers bring diverse perspectives and play an increasingly central role in driving innovation and discovery. My goal is to ensure they have the support to thrive.
Professor Nguyen Thi Lan, President of Viet Nam National University of Agriculture (VNUA)
