Vietnam is a country that exports aquaculture products to about 160 countries over the world. Due to the increasing domestic demand for the high quality aquaculture products and stricter importing markets, more and more importing countries requires certificates of sustainable development. With the support of ARES – Belgium, the research group on Feed and Aquaculture Nutrition of Vietnam National University of Agriculture in collaboration with the University of Namur successfully organized a conference on “Sustainable Development of Aquaculture Feed Production Sector in Vietnam” on December 12, 2018.

Attending the conference were delegates from the Embassy of Belgium in Vietnam, ​​ the University of Namur, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), Hue University, Can Tho University, Engineering and Technology Vocational School, Vietnam Fisheries Association, Center for Fisheries Inspection and Testing, General Department of Fisheries, International Collaborating Center for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS), Vietnam Institute of Fisheries Economics and Planning, World Wildlife Fund - Vietnam (WWF - Vietnam), GreenFeed Company, Hung Vuong Trade and Consultant Company Limited, Kinh Bac Aquatic Feed Processing Factory - DABACO, Minh Hieu Company Limited, Mavin Austfeed Group, Vietnam SeaCulture Association, Vietnam Marine Science and Technology Center, Dong A Fisheries Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, Specialized Equipment and Technology Transfer Joint Stock Company - the PET, Research Institute for Aquaculture I, Vinacert Certification Company and many other participants.

Participants shared information and discussed issues related to sustainable aquaculture production chains, feed formulation, nutritional needs, alternatives for fish meal and fish oil, feed management, aquaculture farming technology, laws and regulations on aquaculture feed, domestic and international certifications for ingredients for the production of aquaculture feeds, traceability, food safety, development and international cooperation strategies to create sustainability for aquaculture feed production in Vietnam.

The conference is a forum for scientists, managers, feed producers, service providers in aquaculture, and NGOs, etc. who work in the field of aquaculture in Vietnam and in other nations to share their experiences and find solutions for the sustainable development of aquaculture sector.
