On the afternoon of July 29, 2026, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) welcomed and held a working session with a delegation from the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, Romania.

Overview of the meeting

The meeting was attended by H.E. Ms. Cristina Romila, Ambassador of Romania to Vietnam; Prof. Sorin CÎMPEANU, Rector of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, Romania; Prof. Nguyen Thi Lan, VNUA’s President and Secretary of the University Party Committee; and leaders of faculties, departments, and specialized units from both universities. The event was also attended by Prof. Nguyen Viet Tung, former Rector of Vietnam Agricultural University I (now known as VNUA) and an alumnus of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest.

As part of the program, VNUA and the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest exchanged information on their respective development strategies and identified priority areas for collaboration based on their complementary strengths. The two institutions agreed to promote the exchange of undergraduate and graduate students, including master's and doctoral candidates; establish joint research groups; implement international collaborative projects; increase co-authored publications in international journals; and advance interdisciplinary research in veterinary medicine and veterinary biotechnology, smart agriculture, plant and animal breeding, food technology, natural resource management, environmental management, and climate change adaptation.

In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, VNUA’s President and Secretary of the University Party Committee, expressed her pleasure at welcoming H.E. Ms. Cristina Romila, Ambassador of Romania to Vietnam, and the delegation from the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest to VNUA. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan emphasized that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between VNUA and the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest marked an important milestone, ushering in a new phase of long-term strategic cooperation between the two higher education institutions in education, scientific research, and innovation. She also expressed her expectation that both institutions would soon translate the agreed areas of cooperation into concrete outcomes through joint research programs, faculty and student exchanges, and the development of advanced scientific and technological solutions, thereby contributing to the advancement of modern, sustainable agriculture and further strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and Romania.

In his remarks, Prof. Sorin CÎMPEANU, Rector of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by VNUA and commended the University's outstanding achievements in education, scientific research, innovation, and international cooperation. He emphasized that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding represented a significant milestone, providing a solid foundation for the two institutions to advance concrete collaborative initiatives in the future. These included faculty, student, and doctoral candidate exchanges; joint research projects; the co-supervision of master's and doctoral students; co-authored publications in international journals; and joint participation in cooperation programs funded by the European Union. Prof. Sorin CÎMPEANU expressed his confidence that, by building on their complementary strengths, the partnership between the two universities would continue to flourish, fostering closer academic ties between Vietnam and Romania.

Following the discussions and agreements during the meeting, the leaders of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest and VNUA formally signed the Memorandum of Understanding. This significant milestone established a solid foundation for the two institutions to expand collaboration in education, scientific research, academic exchange, human resource development, and the implementation of international collaborative projects in the coming years.

 

The working session and the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest and VNUA concluded successfully, opening up new opportunities for cooperation in education, scientific research, innovation, and international integration. The partnership was expected to contribute to the advancement of higher education and agricultural science in both Vietnam and Romania while further strengthening academic collaboration between the two countries.
