Within the framework of the ASEAN-MAFF HRD Project “Human Resource Development in Agriculture and Food-related Areas through Partnership with Universities in ASEAN Region ” funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan and coordinated by the ASEAN Secretariat, Vietnam National University of Agriculture has been assigned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam to organize a training course on Food Analysis from October 28, 2024, to November 1, 2024. To facilitate the participation of trainees from outside the Hanoi area, the course will be conducted in a hybrid format, combining in-person training at the University with online sessions via the Zoom platform.

On the morning of October 28, 2024, the training course was officially inaugurated. Representing the Japanese organizing committee are Ms. Yoshie Seike (Office of Policy Evaluation for Standard Compliance, Food Production Division, New Business and Food Industry Section, Minister's Secretariat, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan); Mr. Takefumi Sonoda, Assistant Coordinator; and Ms. Maria Octorayanti, Senior Officer, ASEAN MAFF Human Resource Development Project, the ASEAN Secretariat. On the side of  Vietnam National University of Agriculture, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, the Dean; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, project coordinator, the lecturers and staff from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, along with over 90 trainees participating both in-person and online.

In the opening speech, Ms. Yoshie Seike expressed her gratitude to the organizers of Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Faculty of Food Science and Technology, for their active coordination in preparing for the course to be held as planned. The implementation of the Food Analysis training course is one of the activities under the cooperation project between Japan and ASEAN countries to develop human resources in the food sector. In this training course, Japan has sent several lecturers and instructors from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, testing agencies, and Japanese enterprises to teach theory and practice. After a period of interruption due to the impact of the Covid pandemic, this is the first Food Analysis course held in person at the University again.
To continue the program, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Bich Thuy, the project coordinator, summarized the phases of the project and the courses that have been organized. After two Food analysis training courses were conducted in 2019 and 2022, the third course will be held from October 28 to November 1, 2024. The training course is divided into two parts: theoretical session (October 28-30, 2024) and practical session (October 31-November 1, 2024) with over 90 registered participants, including lecturers from universities, research institutes, government agencies, food enterprices, staff and students from Vietnam National University of Agriculture. The goal of this training course is to develop human resources in food-related fields at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) and stakeholders to contribute to improving the human resource development system for food analysis in the region, creating a suitable environment to enhance food analysis technology through capacity building with practical training and introducing appropriate equipment for agricultural agencies in Vietnam, supplementing human resources to strengthen food security, nutrition security, and harmonize regulations and standards related to agriculture and food, and increasing trade business opportunities within and outside ASEAN. as well as the long-term competitiveness of ASEAN products/goods/services.

Right after the opening ceremony, the training course officially began with basic lectures on standards, certification, and an introduction to the Japanese food analysis system. This is a valuable opportunity for the trainees to update and enhance their knowledge and skills in Food Analysis.
