On June 17th, 2019, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) hosted the Opening Ceremony of the Training Course on Food Value Chain within the framework of the “ASEAN-Japan Cooperation Project for Human Resource Development in Food-related Areas through Partnership with Universities in ASEAN Region” project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF).

Mr. Keiji Momono – MAFF’s Associate Director, Mr. Takahiro Kosaka - General Manager of Yamato Global Logistics Japan Co., Mr. Eiichi Kusano - Senior Researcher of Japan International Research Center for Agriculture, and Ms. Kie Inoue - Assistant Project Coordinator and Ms. Maria Octra Yanti from ASEAN Secretariat attended the meeting.

From VNUA, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy – Director of the International Cooperation Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Lan Huong and  Dr. Giang Trung Khoa – Vice Deans of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, representatives of companies, representative leaders of faculties and supportive offices, lecturers, and more than 200 students of the Faculties of Food Science and Technology, Environment, Agronomy, Accounting and Business Management, and Economics and Rural Development.

The “ASEAN-Japan Cooperation Project for Human Resource Development in Food-related Areas through Partnership with Universities in ASEAN Region” project started in 2015. In 3 years of phase 1, from 2015 to 2017, the training courses of this project attracted nearly 500 lecturers and students in Food Technology, Food Hygiene Quality Control, and Post-harvest Technology majors. Following the success of 2018, this year, the training course enters the second phase of the project and is expected to welcome more than 200 students, including international students of the above-mentioned faculties, and many Vietnamese enterprises in the field of food industry or related.

As the host of the training course, VNUA hopes that the lecturers, who are the experts in food value chains in Japan and Vietnam, will share their valuable knowledge and experiences to the participants. This will contribute to the training of human resources and the improvement of food value chains in Japan and Vietnam and will also promote a stronger cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture in general and the food industry in particular.
