On June 19, 2019, leaders of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology and the International Cooperation Office, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) welcomed a delegation from AEON 1% Club, AEON Group, Japan to discuss about the possibility of organizing the “Asian Youth Leaders 2019” in Hanoi in August 2019 with the support of VNUA. The delegation was led by Mr. Kenta Okuda, Deputy Director, accompanied by staff from AEON 1% Club and AEONMALL Vietnam.
The Asian Youth Leaders Program is held annually by AEON 1% Club. In this program, high school students in some Asian countries have a chance to raise their awareness of social issues, as well as improve their presentation and team work skills. This year, the theme will be on “Dietary education”, concerning food and health issues and eating habits in Vietnam as well as other countries in the region. In the context of international integration with the increase in incomes of consumers, especially consumers in developing countries, eating habits and diets are changing quickly. Therefore, “dietary education” has become a hot topic attracting the attention of not only researchers and policy makers but also consumers in every part of the world.

Within the framework of this program, AEON 1% Club will invite lecturers of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology to give a lecture on a food-related topic and be judges for the program. They also ask VNUA to propose some specific topics for the program participants to discuss and debate. Leaders of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology are willing to support AEON 1% Club in organizing the program and will consider assigning staff and lecturers to participate in the program. The two parties also agree to select Vietnam National University of Agriculture as one of the destinations for high school students from various countries to visit in order to learn more about VNUA’s training and research activities in the field of agriculture. It is expected that this program will help to enhance the relationship between VNUA and AEON Group, Japan, the organization which has provided scholarships to 20 VNUA students.
