On the morning of October 31 and November 1, 2022, the conference "Evidence-based policy and higher education: Progress, pitfalls and promise" took place at the Academy of Journalism and Communication. The conference took place within the framework of the international project "Monitoring employment trends of Vietnamese graduates" (MOTIVE). The conference was held in person in combination with online via Zoom software. The conference lasted until November 3, 2022.

The international delegates attending the conference included Mr. Antonio Alessandro, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Italy in Vietnam; Mr. Dorel Nicolae Manitiu, Project Coordinator, AlmaLaurea Consortium; Mr. Alessandro Malaguti, Italian Agricultural Association, Project Member; and Ms. Valentina Conti, AlmaLaurea Consortium, Project Member.
From Vietnam, there were Mr. Pham Bao Duong, Vice President of the Vietnam National University of Agriculture; Mr. Tran Thanh Van, Vice President of Thai Nguyen University; Mr. Bui Tat Hieu, Vice President of Hanoi Tourism College; Ms. Phan Thi Hue, Vice President of Ha Long University; Mr. Mac Quoc Anh, Vice Chairman of Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises; Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao, Director of the Italia Center, Project Coordinator in Vietnam; and Mr. Bui Tien Dung, representative of the Department of Political Education and Student Affairs, Ministry of Education and Training.
From the Academy of Journalism and Communication, there were Assoc. Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication; Dr. Vu Thanh Van, Head of International Cooperation Department - Project Coordinator; and representatives from the academy units and project members in the Academy.
Delivering the opening speech of the Conference, Assoc. Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda, said that in order for graduates to find jobs suitable with their training majors, educational institutions need to pay attention to three solutions. First, the training program itself must be in line with the trends of the labor market. Second, educational institutions need to strengthen career guidance, career counseling and connect students with employers. Third, at the macro level, education policies need to be based on specific examples and practices, meeting the development requirements of industries, fields, and development trends of the country.

Speaking at conference, Mr. Antonio Alessandro, Ambassador of Italy to Vietnam, highly appreciated the development and implementation of the project “Monitoring employment trends of graduates”. The results of the project were practical, directly serving training activities and career guidance, and assisting students in finding jobs. The Italian Embassy in Vietnam was interested in promoting cooperation between Vietnamese and Italian universities. The Italian Embassy would continue to support the implementation of the MOTIVE project and similar projects in the future.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Bui Tien Dung, representative of the Department of Political Education and Student Affairs, Ministry of Education and Training, said that universities need solutions to improve professional skills for the students. Career guidance, career counseling, and job search support should be considered. The results of the project “Monitoring employment trends of graduates” would serve as a reference for the Ministry of Education and Training in formulating educational policies.

Delivering a report at the conference, Dr. Vu Thanh Van, Head of the International Cooperation Office, Academy of Journalism and Communication, said that one of the important goals of this project was to strengthen the connection between students and employers to help students find jobs and ensure that the jobs found match their majors after graduation. The rate of students having jobs after graduation was always one of the most important indicators of the training quality of an educational institution.
