Vietnam's fisheries industry plays an important role in the country's economic development. The scale of the fisheries industry is increasingly expanding and its role is also constantly expanding in the national economy. The issue of diseases in aquatic products is always a prominent issue of concern to society because it greatly affects the output and quality of products, especially those for export.

The Faculty of Fisheries, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), is one of the leading units in researching and finding effective solutions in preventing aquatic diseases in Vietnam. Facilities and equipment for aquatic disease research and disease prevention and treatment solutions are increasingly paid more attention in terms of investment from VNUA through different projects of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the World Bank Project. Since then, students of the Faculty of Fisheries have had a professional learning environment, opportunities to interact, practice, do internship and do in-depth research since their first years of admission. In recent years, students of the faculty have participated in many scientific conferences, science and technology exhibitions, and been given the opportunity to participate in scientific research awards from VNUA, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Eureka Award, and VIFOTEC, etc.

During the 2022-2023 school year, students of the Faculty of Fisheries, VNUA, actively participated in scientific research projects funded by VNUA and research funding from businesses cooperating with the Faculty of Fisheries. After spending time in the lecture hall, many students spent their remaining time on their passion for scientific research. Students from the Faculty of Fisheries participated in scientific projects at all levels with Faculty staff, and student scientific research projects and prestigious scientific publications in Vietnam and abroad while sitting in the lecture hall. Students of the Faculty of Fisheries have also won encouraging awards such as certificates of merit from the VNUA’s President for the Third Prize of the 2023 scientific research award, the Third Prize of scientific research ideas, and the Scientific and Technological Product Display Award in 2023. In particular, the group of students, including Xa Duc Binh, Hoang Thi Thuy Linh, Nguyen Thi Thuy Hong, Tran Thi Diem Quynh and Mai Van Thuong, under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Dinh Hoai, with his continuous efforts in scientific research, was honored to receive certificates of merit, certificates and Third Prize - Science and Technology Award for students in higher education institutions in 2023 of the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations (VIFOTEC) and Ministry of Education and Training.

The above results were the source of motivation for teachers and students of the Faculty of Fisheries, VNUA, to continue promoting the scientific research movement, integrating science into effectively solving practical problems of the fisheries industry, especially the today’s emerging issue of preventing and treating aquatic diseases.
