At the reception, VNUA’s leaders proposed bilateral and multilateral potential cooperation opportunities between the two nations with particular focus on training and research, scientific and technological transfer in agriculture and livestock production.

On the same day, Mr. Mike Petersen gave a special speech on global trade opportunities for agriculture producing countries like Vietnam and New Zealand to staff and students of VNUA. He also provided the participants with an overview of advanced agriculture and livestock production of his country with beautiful, typical and illustrative images.

The first visit of New Zealand Special Agriculture Trade Envoy to Vietnam and Vietnam National University of Agriculture in particular affirmed the commitment of New Zealand to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam especially in the fields of trade and agriculture. The visit was also an opportunity to develop further understanding of each country’s agricultural trade interests, Vietnam’s agribusiness sector and potential partnerships with New Zealand.

New Zealand and Vietnam have established a well developed partnership in agriculture and trade. The two countries are Parties of the ASEAN - Australia - New Zealand Free Trade Agreement and are currently preceding negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Regional Comprehensive partnership.

\r\n

Through the New Zealand Aid Program, New Zealand also supports the development of Vietnam’s agricultural sector with programs focusing on value added agricultural and livestock production that bring benefits to farmers, and develops capacity of small and medium enterprises in Vietnam.
