On October 6th and 7th 2020, the SEAMEO BIOTROP 58th Governing Board Meeting was held online with the participation of 11 members from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Thailand and Vietnam. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, President of Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), who has been re-elected as a member of the Governing Board for the 2020-2023 term, attended the Meeting.

The SEAMEO BIOTROP Governing Board Meeting is held annually for the members to discuss and reach agreement on key issues implemented by SEAMEO BIOTROP by votes of GB members. In this year Meeting, the noticeable issues including Significant Points, Agreements and Actions Taken on Key Agenda Items from 57th Governing Board Meeting in FY 2019/2020, BIOTROPIA Journal Publishing, researching and training programs in the upcoming years, financial reports, evaluation of SEAMEO BIOTROP 10th FYDP (2019-2022) and Proposed mechanism of preparation of SEAMEO BIOTROP 11th Five-year Development Plan (2022-2026), Proposed SEAMEO BIOTROP Organizational Restructuring were put on the table for discussion. Especially, all members participating in the Meeting have voted for the Appointment of  SEAMEO BIOTROP Director for the 2021-2023 term.

Speaking at the Meeting, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan expressed her attitude to continue being re-elected as a member of SEAMEO BIOTROP Governing Board. She also highly appreciated the activities and results achieved by SEAMEO BIOTROP. Mrs. Lan commented on researching and training activities implemented by SEAMEO BIOTROP in the upcoming time that those researches should be conducted at regional level with the cooperation of country members and research themes should expand in the fields of animal husbandry, veterinary, disease, ecological sustainability. Moreover, SEAMEO BIOTROP should invite experts from country members to give lectures in trainings in order to take advantages of their updated information and practical experiences.

The SEAMEO BIOTROP 58th Virtual Governing Board Meeting ended successfully with the agreement of all participated members on the discussed issues. Dr. Zulhamsyah Imran, Deputy Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP Center is voted as new Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP for the 2021-2023 term.

The original purpose of establishing SEAMEO BIOTROP was to contribute in the Southeast Asia economic development by determining and solving vital biological issues. In particular, SEAMEO BIOTROP focuses on creating research programs; thus, creating the variety research programs to disseminate findings and experiences throughout research process. This can be considered as an important aspect for SEAMEO BIOTROP to achieve its goals.
