On March 4, 2019, the 2018 Kovalevskaya Award Granting was held solemnly at the Hanoi Medical University.

The Kovalevskaya Award is a prestigious national award for female scientists, first given in Vietnam in 1985. After 34 years, the award has been given to 47 individuals and 18 groups of outstanding Vietnamese women in various fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, agriculture, medicine, and information technology.

The 2018 Kovalevskaya Award Granting was held solemnly at the Hanoi Medical University

Recognizing outstanding achievements in scientific research in general and research in natural sciences in particular, the 2018 Kovalevskaya Award honors the Environmental Technology sub-department under the Environment Department of ‎Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University, and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, President of Vietnam National University of Agriculture.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan has obtained notable scientific research achievements. She was either leader or a member of 22 state and ministerial level research projects. She has had a total of 105 scientific articles published in local and international scientific journals, in which there are 29 articles published on ISI indexed journals.

The Prof. Dr. Lan, born in 1974, is known as the youngest professor in the history of veterinary medicine. She received the UVY Honorary Fellowship and has become the visiting professor of Yamaguchi University, Japan since 2015, and currently the chairman of the Asian Society of Veterinary Pathology. Many of her works have been widely recognized and successfully applied and transferred such as quick test kits to detect the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus (PRRS), also known as blue-ear pig disease, and the vaccine against fever in dogs, microbial products in animal production. She is also a co-author of two important procedures, namely the diagnosis process for infectious hepatitis in chickens and the prevention and treatment process for infectious hepatitis in chickens.

At the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan shared her milestones in her research and difficulties and challenges that she and her colleagues had experienced. She also sent her deep gratitude to the teaching and instruction of her teachers, the support of the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnam Women's Union, and lecturers and staff of Vietnam National University of Agriculture who have helped her attain today’s achievement.

Besides the annual award granting, Kovalevskaya Award Fund also organized a dialogue between female scientists receiving Kovalevskaya Award and excellent female undergraduate students in natural sciences.

The 2018 Kovalevskaya Award Granting ended successfully. Vietnam National University of Agriculture shared the joy and pride with Prof. Nguyen Thi Lan for receiving such a noble award.
