On the morning of March 2, 2023, the Institute of Agricultural Biology and the Crops Strong Research Group, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), held a scientific seminar on "Potato production technology in the Netherlands and lessons learned for Vietnam" presented by Dr. Frits Werkman, expert of the Dutch potato breeding and consulting company.

Attending the seminar were leaders and researchers of the Institute of Agricultural Biology and members of the Crops Strong Research Group, VNUA.

At the seminar, Dr. Frits Werkman presented outstanding issues in the production of seed potatoes and commercial potatoes in the Netherlands as well as important points during the production process. As a world famous country for agricultural production, the Netherlands has about 160,000 hectares of potato production, of which 44,000 hectares are dedicated to seed production. More than 80% of potato seed production is exported to countries around the world. At the same time, the expert also pointed out lessons learned that can be applied and improved to be applicable for potato production in Vietnam.

During the seminar, the participants were very active in exchanging and discussing with the expert to better understand the presented content.

At the end of the seminar, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, on behalf of the Institute of Agricultural Biology and the Crops Strong Research Group, deeply thanked Dr. Frits Werkman for a very practical and useful presentation. These were very valuable lessons not only for the current potato production system of the Institute of Agricultural Biology but also for the potato production of Vietnam in general. Besides that, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Truong also respectfully requested regular help and support from the Dutch expert, Dr. Frits Werkman, in the development of research and production of potatoes.
