On the morning of September 14, 2019, a delegation of Thua Thien Hue province led by Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue People's Committee, paid a working visit to Vietnam National University of Agriculture.
The delegation included Mr. Nguyen Dai Vui - Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, Mr. Ho Sy Nguyen - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Tran Quoc Thang - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Bach - Deputy Chief of Provincial People's Committee Office, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Secretary of Phong Dien District Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Duc - Chairman of Quang Dien District People's Committee and comrades representing provincial departments, agencies and enterprises.
Receiving the delegation from VNUA were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan - President, Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien - Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong – Vice President and representative leaders of faculties, functional offices, research institutes and centers, and scientists of the university.
The orientation of the agricultural economy in Thua Thien Hue is to focus on effectively exploiting all potentials, advantages to develop a rapid, high quality, efficient and sustainable agriculture based on the circulating economic model, ensuring the harmony between growth, environmental protection and stability as three main pillars:
Firstly, carry out a comprehensive assessment on potentials of fishery, horticulture, animal husbandry and forestry associated with the development of processing industry and tourism is the nucleus of economic development.
Secondly, implement the application of high technology and high food safety standards in order to both meet the needs of the domestic market and boost exports.
Thirdly: Develop agriculture associated with large-scale processing and diversifying local tourism products and linking to the key economic region of the Central.
Based on the mentioned orientation, Vietnam National University of Agriculture proposes activities as the followings:
1. Review and complete the master plan for development of agriculture and forestry production in association with tourism;
2. Survey and evaluate specialty plants and animals with potentials for economic and tourist development;
3. Develop agriculture associated with tourism;
4. Train human resources and build scientific and technological capacity in the period of 2020-2025.
Representatives of departments of Thua Thien Hue province were very impressed and agreed with the VNUA’s proposals. In addition, they suggested to focus on the rehabilitation of coastal ecosystems, development of mangroves associated with aquaculture, tourism exploration, agricultural products based tourism. The province also stated the importance of contributions of VNUA’s scientists to provincial development.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho expressed his pleasure to visit and work with the university. He hoped that the university together with the province would finalize activities to improve production value, productivity in agriculture, develop agriculture in the direction of sustainable development, thereby helping Hue's agriculture make new strides and boost the economy of the whole province.

Concluding the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan expressed her gratitude to the trust of leaders of Thua Thien Hue Province when the province requests the university to propose agricultural development proposals and projects of the province. She hoped that following agreed guidelines, VNUA’s scientists will work closely with relevant departments of the province to elaborate feasible for the province.
