The project "Integrating smallholder households and farm production systems into commercial beef supply chains in Vietnam" (AGB/2020/189) is a collaborative research project between the University of Tasmania (UTAS), Australia, and the National Institute of Animal Sciences (NIAS), Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), and the Center for Rural Development (CRD - Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry). The project is funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). The Department of Quantitative Analysis (a member of the research group on Economic Linkages and Market Development), under the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development (FERD), Vietnam National University of Agriculture, is one of the key partners. The project's objective is to enhance the linkages between livestock households, businesses, and other actors within the commercial beef supply chain in Vietnam, while also improving the livelihoods of livestock farmers by accessing business models to participate in the commercial beef supply chain in Vietnam.

Additionally, the project aims to enhance the capacity of Vietnamese partners, including providing opportunities for students from the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development to improve their learning and research skills. The project and the faculty organized a review all proposals and two student groups are selected to be awarded research funding in 2024, as follows:

  • Group 1: Three students are selected including Nguyễn Minh Nguyệt (Group Leader), Lê Thị Thanh Thư, and Ngô Thị Tố Uyên from class KTS67A, with the research topic "Economic efficiency of applying a circular economy model in beef cattle farming in Song Mai commune, Kim Động district, Hưng Yên province," under the supervision of Dr. Bùi Văn Quang.
  • Group 2: Three students are awarded including  Nguyễn Ngọc Loan (Group Leader), Đoàn Thu Hà, and Nguyễn Tiến Đạt from class QLKT67A, with the research topic "Analysis of the beef supply chain in Tân Tiến commune, Văn Giang district, Hưng Yên province," under the supervision of Dr. Nguyễn Thị Lý.
