From January 8-10, 2019, with the support of the Irish Embassy in Vietnam, the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), collaborated with the Department of Agricultural Economics, Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Faculty of Food Business and Development and the Centre for Policy Studies at the University College Cork (Ireland) in organizing a training workshop on “Building capacity in evaluating investment efficiency of agricultural projects”.
Attending in the workshop were Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong, VNUA’s Vice President, Ms. Elisa Cavacece, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Ireland, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duong, Department of Agricultural Economics, Ministry of Planning and Investment, and delegates from Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, and Ninh Binh provinces, as well as lecturers and students of Vietnam National University of Agriculture.

The training workshop aimed at strengthening capacity in evaluating investment efficiency of agricultural projects for officers at central and local levels, and lecturers and students of Vietnam National University of Agriculture. Speaking at the workshop, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong stated that this workshop not only helped enhance capacity of VNUA’s lecturers and students but also strengthen cooperation relationship in research and training between Vietnam National University of Agriculture and the Ministry of Planning and Investment, as well as University College Cork and Irish Embassy. Ms. Elisa Cavacece also emphasized the important partnership between Vietnam and Ireland and expressed her high expectation in further improving the collaboration among universities and state management agencies of the two countries.

The workshop had key speakers coming from the Department of Agricultural Economics, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the University College Cork (Ireland), Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Hung Yen Provincial Department of Planning and Investment, and Ha Nam Provincial Department of Planning and Investment. It was also an opportunity for state managers at different levels, lecturers and students of Vietnam National University of Agriculture and specialists from University College Cork (Ireland) to discuss, learn and understand more about the investment efficiency of agricultural project assessment. Participants had a heated discussion, and the workshop proposed policy recommendations on improving the quality of the investment efficiency of agricultural project assessment in the coming time to agencies at all levels.
