On September 28, 2018, at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), VNUA and Incheon National University Korea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaboration not only helps share scientific and technological advances and academic contents between two parties, but also opens up various academic opportunities for Vietnamese and Korean students. 

Attending the ceremony, from Vietnam National University of Agriculture, there were VNUA’s President, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Director of VNUA’s Center of Manpower Supply, Dr. Vu Ngoc Huyen, Director of International Cooperation Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, and other key staff at VNUA. From Korean delegation, there were the President of the Incheon National University, Mr. Cho Dong-Sung, Director of the Research Institute GLI, Mr. Lee Sangoon, Director of Student Office and Employment Supports, Mr. Choi Byoungjo, and Senior Manager, Mr. Lee Kwanghee.

To provide participants with more information about VNUA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Director of International Cooperation Office highlighted achievements of the university. VNUA has 1,365 staff in total (in which there are 700 lecturers and researchers). According to the estimate for 2016-2017 school year, there were 31,317 students in total. VNUA offers a wide range of majors such as economics, social sciences, information technology, animal science, veterinary medicine, aquaculture, and agronomy, etc. with training and research orientation in agricultural sciences as well as economics and rural development.

The delegation from Incheon National University expressed their high appreciation on VNUA’s achievements. Mr. Cho Dong-Sung, President of the Incheon National University, introduced brief information about Incheon National University with focus on its training institutes and some fundamental majors such as NANO Technology and Research in Biotechnology. He also shared his aspiration to cooperate with VNUA for an intensive mutual relation. The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere where both parties frankly and effectively shared cooperation strategies for the future.

After the MOU signing ceremony, the Korean delegation and VNUA planted a commemorative tree on VNUA campus. This is a meaningful activity for the two countries with long traditions of agriculture and cultural values in common. The image of green trees planted by the leaders of the two universities symbolizes the spirit of cooperation for development, preparing for great ambitions and strengthening solidarity.

On this occasion, the two parties also inaugurated a Training Institute of Incheon National University at VNUA. The delegation was warmly welcomed by VNUA’s students who were working hard to prepare for their study and work in Korea. The representatives of the Incheon National University highly appreciated Vietnamese students’ efforts as well as the effective training program which helps students learn Korean language quickly as well as Korean culture for greater confidence before their study in Korea. Following this, the delegation visited some Biotechnology models at VNUA.

 

Leaders of the two universities cut ribbon for the inauguration and planted commemorative trees in the campus

Biotechnology is the field which receives special attention by researchers and specialists in both teaching and practicing because of its importance and applicability. The delegation at first visited a model in VNUA’s Institute for Research and Development of Microalgae. There, nutritious microalgae were grown using high techniques with modern, environmental-friendly, and user-friendly treatment methods, which was paid special attention by the delegation. The specialists at the microalgae research institute introduced caring techniques and effects of microalgae on human health as a nutritious food. After that, the delegation visited the modern potato breeding farm. Observing the impressive achievements, especially different innovations in Biotechnology at VNUA, the delegation of Incheon National University were very interested in the presentation of the scientists, and raised some in-depth questions.

Despite the time constraint, this visit brought about deep mutual understanding and respect for the two universities as well as expectation on a future collaboration for further development between Vietnam National University of Agriculture and Incheon National University, Korea. At the end of the meeting, on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Cho Dong-Sung sent special thanks to VNUA’s staff and lecturers in general and the staff at VNUA Center for Manpower Supply in particular for the professional, careful preparation and thoughtful timetable that helped this visit successful.
