On June 6, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) welcomed a delegation of Handong Global University, Korea, including Prof. Ahn Jinwon, Dean of the Faculty of Policies and Planning, Prof. Dr. Cho Kyu-bong and other university’s staff and lecturers, to discuss about collaboration opportunities between two universities. Participating in the meeting, from VNUA, there were leader and staff of the International Cooperation Office (ICO), and representatives from the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, ICO Director, gave an overview on the university’s history of establishment and development, majors and training programs, as well as notable research achievements. Currently, VNUA offers various joint training programs, double degree programs, and exchange programs for staff, lecturers and students with different universities and research institutions in Korea. VNUA’s lecturers who earned master's and doctorate degrees in Korea have been actively contributing to the development of VNUA.

Representatives of the International Cooperation Office and Handong Global University discuss potential cooperation between two universities

Established in Pohang city, Gyeongsang province in 1994, Handong Global University is a private multidisciplinary university, offering courses in different social-humanities majors such as Social Welfare, Business Management; technical majors such as Engineering and Information Technology, and arts majors. On the basis of the common aspects of the two universities in teaching and development orientation, Handong Global University hopes that the two parties will soon develop a Memorandum of Understanding so as to promote these common points and strengths. Handong Global University is willing to collaborate with VNUA in developing exchange programs for the two parties’ staff, lecturers and students to create the opportunities for mutual learning and exchanging of experiences in training and research.

On this occasion, Handong Global University introduced the UNESCO - UNITWIN Program of which the university is one of the host universities in Asia. The program provides financial aids to university lecturers to establish free online courses for the community with the aim of reducing the intellectual and educational gaps in the society, especially in developing countries. The documents of these courses are also stored electronically so that users can access them anytime, anywhere.

After the meeting with VNUA’s representatives, Prof. Cho Kyu-bong gave a presentation on “The effects of loan growth on bank performance: small versus large banks” and had a discussion about cooperation potentials with the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development.

This visit to VNUA marked the beginning of the collaboration between VNUA and Handong Global University and showed a lot of potentials for the development of various cooperation programs in the current context of international integration.
