VNUA strongly promotes cooperation with educational institutions of the Lao PDR

In order to promote cooperation between Lao educational institutions and Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), and, at the same time, promote the advertisement of VNUA, and attract Lao students to study and research at VNUA, VNUA’s delegation led by Dr. Nguyen Cong Tiep, VNUA’s Vice President, visited and worked with the Departments of Education and Sports, universities, colleges, and high schools in the capital of Laos, Vientiane, and Luang Prabang province, Lao PDR from March 26 to March 29, 2024.

Visiting and working with educational institutions in Laos, VNUA introduced the process of formation and development, organizational structure, training programs along with achievements in training and scientific research, and the potential of human resources, facilities, and international cooperation and expressed the desire to cooperate and support the educational institutions to improve capacity through providing scholarships for students to study long-term; organizing training classes to improve capacity for officials and lecturers at Lao agricultural training schools; providing entrepreneurship training for teachers, students, and high school students; and cooperating in building 2+2 and 3+1 joint training programs and concurrent degree programs, etc. In addition, VNUA also wanted to promote research cooperation such as applying high-tech agriculture, ecological agriculture associated with sustainable tourism development, and transferring new technical advances on plant varieties, livestock, processing technology, fruits and vegetables, and landscape for Lao universities and colleges, etc.

The Departments of Education and Sports, universities, colleges, and high schools in the capital of Laos, Vientiane, and Luang Prabang province where VNUA visited and worked all highly appreciated VNUA's business trip and expressed their gratitude to VNUA for training large human resources for Laos, especially in the field of agriculture and rural development. Sharing with Lao partners about the difficulties in recent years, especially the trend of students gradually losing their interest in agricultural fields, VNUA hoped that with the cooperation of partners including VNUA in improving the quality of training and improving the qualifications of staff and lecturers, Lao educational institutions would continue to attract more and more students.

Carrying out the task of training graduate students for Laos under the Agreement between the two Governments, up to now, VNUA had received nearly 600 undergraduate students and trained more than 300 graduate students for Laos. On the occasion of the business trip, VNUA's leaders held an intimate meeting and exchange with VNUA alumni in Laos. Many former students travelled nearly a thousand kilometres to attend the meeting, sharing unforgettable memories during their studies at VNUA as well as the work and life situation of current students. Some Lao former students had become successful, holding many important positions in different Lao ministries, state agencies, educational institutions, research institutes, and businesses. Many Lao alumni expressed their plans to continue their higher education at VNUA. They all wished to be bridges of cooperation between VNUA and the agency where they were working and wished VNUA to develop further, becoming a reliable address to continue training high-quality human resources for Lao PDR. At the meeting, Lao alumni established the Association of Lao alumni and introduced the Executive Committee of the Association of Lao alumni of Vietnam National University of Agriculture with Dr. Phuthon, currently working at the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, as the Chairman of the Association.
