On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Applied Sciences HAS (UAS HAS), the Netherlands with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of training and applied research in agriculture.

The MOU signing ceremony between the UAS HAS and HUA was one of the first activities under a Strategic Partnership Agreement on Agriculture and Food Security, a framework for further cooperation in these areas between Vietnam and the Netherlands. Also at this meeting, the two sides signed a Letter of Intent for a joint cooperation in a project on establishing The Fresh Academy in Vietnam.

The Fresh Academy is an independent private organization that will support the development of the Vietnamese agri-food sector towards sustainability, safety and health through sharing knowledge and skills in the production, post-harvest, and distribution stages of the supply chain, and structural presence of applied training. The Fresh Academy will create clear linkages with the public and private sectors in Vietnam and the Netherlands. At the same time, the Fresh Academy will facilitate Vietnamese – Dutch business partnerships and commercial results for the Dutch horticultural industry.

Earlier on 30 May and 13 June 2014, HUA leaders and heads of the International Cooperation Office, and Faculty of Agronomy had meetings and discussed with Mr. Jos Leters and Mr. Tom Muijiwijk, the UAS HAS representatives, about objectives, activities, and tentative plan for the project proposal on the establishment of the Fresh Academy.
