Reporter: As far as we understand, in recent years, admissions quotas of universities have had the tendency to decline sharply, and many universities found it difficult to enroll enough students. However, VNUA always retains its position with a high admissions quota. Please give your opinion about the matter.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan: Vietnam National University of Agriculture, formerly Agricultural University 1 and then Hanoi University of Agriculture, is one of the national key universities, and thus, the university always successfully implements its recruitment and training roles, especially in the fields of agriculture and rural development. Every year, the university has a large number of candidates applying for admission. In 2016, the enrollment target for all majors at the undergraduate level of the university is 5500 students and 300 at the associate level, excluding students at the postgraduate level. The university is a leading university in training high-quality human resources in the fields of agriculture and rural development in the country.

Reporter: The number of students and staff at the university is currently nearly 40,000 people. In your view, how can the existing facility conditions of the university meet the needs of studying and working?

\r\n

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan: The facilities of the university always meet the academic requirements of students, and research and work conditions of lecturers. Our university is referred to as one of the largest campuses in Northern Vietnam. Facilities of the university are being invested in to expand and improve to be better. Our system of lecture halls is fully equipped and continuously operated to serve the learning needs of students. Moreover, in order to match other credit programs, the internet connection network in laboratories, practice rooms, and computer rooms, etc. are always logically arranged for the students’ convenience. I believe that we can still meet the needs of learning and scientific research with the increased number of students.

Reporter: Two of the things that students are interested in at university are scholarship policies and learning preferential regime. How are the university’s scholarship programs?

\r\n

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan: The university always has many scholarship programs supported by donors and international scholarships for students whose have good academic results to promote learning. For example, the university has a full scholarship for students who are selected as the best and the second-best students in the annual university entrance exam. They will be funded to study in Japan. Some of our international scholarships for students include HUA JICF (Japan), CIS (China) and Taiwan. There are also scholarships for training in soft skills, learning foreign languages, information technology, entrepreneurship, professional internships in companies, and for students who have good academic results during the school year. In general, if the students continually work hard, the achievement of a scholarship may be in their hands.

Reporter: One question that is of great concern for many students:  What are the career opportunities for graduates from the Vietnam National University of Agriculture?

\r\n

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan: "Unemployed" is an obsession with graduating students.  The ability to have a job and a suitable working position depend on themselves. To assist students, the university has linked with various businesses to create more job opportunities for them. The university has set up a center to consult students about occupations and provide support and a center for foreign and international training. The Job Fair held annually has attracted nearly 100 enterprises to recruit 3000-4000 job positions. This is a great opportunity for students to be able to find a suitable job.
