The University is not only the origin of human resources training in the agricultural sector, but is also a multi-disciplinary research center for the agricultural and rural sectors, and the university’s research results have been implemented from basic science to broad application. Applied scientific and technological transfers are key applications in the science and technology training at the university that provide important resources for developing and restructuring agriculture and rural development.

High quality resource development and funds for scientific research

\r\n

Vietnam National University of Agriculture is an important center for training, and multi-disciplinary and multi-sector scientific research. Currently, the number of staff who participate in scientific research is approximately 80% of the total staff at the university. Facilities are comprehensive and modern with many ISO laboratories. Units under the university are organized and operated to allow both openness and cooperation in the monitoring and management by the Party Committee, Presidency Board, and Board of Trustees, thus the number of scientific research projects and funding for scientific research at the university have increased over the years. During the period of 2000-2005 to the period of 2011-2015, the number of research projects increased from 500 to 1067 supported by total funding of nearly 306.2 billion VND. These projects included 43 projects at the State level, 127 projects at the Ministry level, 17 projects of international cooperation, 55 projects at the local level, and 825 projects at the grassroots level.

\r\n

In addition, the university hosted and took part in several National key programs including: the Science and Technology Program for building new rural communities, Science and Technology Program for Northwest Development, Vaccine Program, National Product Program, and programs dedicated to rice, coffee, pepper, beef, etc.

Technical progress transfer for agricultural and rural construction

\r\n

More than 50 projects, and scientific and technological models have been deployed in such localities as: Hanoi (application of mini harvesters, synchronized potato farming system, hybrid banana model, short plant marigolds, etc.); Ha Nam (organic vegetable production model, livestock production model based on biological sealings, model of livestock waste treatment, model for hybrid rice variety production, etc.); Bac Ninh (evaluating the effectiveness of training and development of human resources for the construction of new rural communities and solutions proposal, model for potato variety production,  model for new rice variety, etc.); Bac Giang (research and development of pomelo in Hiep Hoa, building fruit gardens, model for building tomato, cucumber and custard-apple production for processing and exporting, model for building a high quality pig breeding program, etc.); Phu Tho (insurance policy study for people who plant tea at Phu Tho, technological transfer for processing and producing Pominor fertilizers, etc.); Lai Chau (research revigoration and development of TE RAU rice, research revigoration and development of sticky rice and KHAU KY, etc.); Cao Bang (research the application of gasification technology composition, compost, livestock production applying deep bed litter flooring system,Vietgap vegetables, etc.); Bac Kan (model for goat improvement, revigoration of Bao Thai rice variety, etc.); Yen Bai (model for development of fruit varieties, model for goat development, etc.); Hai Duong (model for pomelo revigoration, model for breeding grass carp, model for developing Bac Thom 7 and Bac Uu 253, etc. );

\r\n

Hung Yen (model for development of sand-worms, model for Petrain pig stress resistance breeding, etc.); Hai Phong (model for tomato production and processing, mini transplant machine model, etc.); Quang Ninh (model for developing taro, model for planting safe vegetables, etc.); Thai Binh (building and developing garlic branch Thai Thuy-Thai Binh, bee breeding model, etc.); and Nam Dinh (model for production of hybrid rice seed, etc.),

\r\n

\r\n

Beside the scientific and technological models that have been deployed in numerous localities, the university’s research projects have been transferred and applied to production. For instance, hybrid rice, tomato, corn, and soybean have all benefited from the technical process, technical progress, and exclusive protection certificate of useful solutions.

\r\n

Together with the tasks of training and scientific research, staff and students at the university are actively involved in the emulative movement “Joint building new rural communities”. During the period of 2011-2015, scientific research and technical transfer for new rural construction have been implemented in various sectors such as the planning of new rural construction, building models for planting, animal husbandry and aquaculture, and waste environmental protection. These activities have actually contributed to accelerate the construction of new rural communities in the localities where they have been applied.

\r\n

Achievements are recognized

\r\n

The scientific works that have been successfully transferred from the university have assisted those localities receiving and using the technology to solve a wide range of basic issues. These include increasing productivity, quality, and economic efficiency through the restructuring of plant and animal productions in order to increase income at the local level; developing better products in Vietnam; restoring and developing traditional industries and supplementary industries; developing animal husbandry oriented industries; expanding breeding and aquaculture under the industrial and semi-industrial ecological forms; applying biological technology and using biological products for safe agricultural production;  and providing scientific and technological information for agriculture and rural development. Applying advanced science and technology to production in order to get practical economic-social benefits in the localities where the projects have been implemented have created many success stories where the projects continue to contribute to improve the people’s lives. The project results have been sustainable and replicated as the foundation for other economic-social development programs at the local level, and have raised the confidence and awareness of the people in the application of technical improvements in production and life.

\r\n

Technological transfer has brought many changes in the production of agriculture and forestry in numerous localities and contributed to helping the local people meet the criteria of increasing their income. The results of technological transfer are not only accepted by the people in the deployed area, but also recognized in the local communities.

\r\n

With the achievements of technological transfer, the university has received many certificates of merit from various ministries, including the merit of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. Of special notes, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Tram was awarded the title of Hero of Labor, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan was honored with the Golden Cup “Typical Science and Technology Intellectual in 2015” award.

\r\n

To promote extensive research, transfer, and application of science and technology in agricultural production, the Secretary of Party Committee and the President of the University, Nguyen Thi Lan stated, “In the future, the university will sync innovative policy mechanisms, promote scientific and technological activities, especially technological transfer in agriculture and rural systems, and automate the ordering mechanism of scientific and technological products to promote self-responsibility.”
