On 15th March, 2019, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) and Yamaguchi University (YU), Japan coordinated to organize the agreement signing ceremony for establishment and inauguration of Yamaguchi University International Collaboration Office (YUICO Hanoi) at Vietnam National University of Agriculture. The ceremony received the attendance of the representatives of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and YU's partners such as Hue University, Da Nang University, Can Tho University and the National Institute of Animal Sciences. As for YU, Prof. Fusanori Miura - Vice Rector for International Affairs led the delegations of representatives, officials of the Faculty of Economics, Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Graduate School of Technology Innovation and Management, and the Division of International Affairs. Regarding VNUA, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan - President of VNUA warmly welcomed the delegation with the participation of Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong – VNUA Vice Director, leaders of Faculties of Agronomy, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Electrical Engineering and International Cooperation Office and VNUA’s staff who are YU’s alumni.

At the establishment and inauguration ceremony of Hanoi YUICO, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan reviewed the achievement of cooperation between the two universities. Vietnam National University of Agriculture and Yamaguchi University have enjoyed a long standing friendship with each other. Both universities signed a memorandum of agreement for the first time at faculty level in 2007 and 02 memoranda of understanding on academic exchange and student exchange agreement were signed in April 2017. Over the past 11 years, Yamaguchi University provides many scholarships to support VNUA staff and students. Up to now, 13 VNUA staff have pursued their Doctoral degrees in agriculture, veterinary medicine, land management, information technology, and environment at YU. Both sides have already jointly implemented some small projects in veterinary and crop science. Besides that, a numerous number of staff and students of VNUA have come to Yamaguchi University for working visits, participating in short training courses, workshops, seminars and vice versa. Currently, these trained staff and students have returned to Vietnam and are making practical contribution to the University as well as Vietnam's agricultural sector. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan also expressed her sincere thanks to YU and related parties for their support and choosing VNUA as the location for YU’s International collaboration office in Vietnam. VNUA commits to carry out all necessary activities in the capacity to strengthen the relationship and friendship between YU and VNUA and between YU and partners of higher education institution in Vietnam by signing an agreement for the establishment and cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the YUICO Hanoi Office in the presence of representatives of the Embassy of Japan and their partners.

YUICO Hanoi will perform the following tasks:

-     To collect and provide information to promote exchanges of the students and researchers between VNUA /other universities in Vietnam and YU;

-     To support the teaching and research activities of the faculty and staff of YU;

-     To provide support to students from YU to help them adjust to study and life in Vietnam;

-     To support YU Overseas Alumni Association, Hanoi Chapter’s activity;

-     To support activities for former foreign YU students/researchers who have returned to VNUA and other universities in Vietnam and have been posted to Vietnam for work;

-     To disseminate brochures and leaflets introducing the life and study information at YU to potential students in Vietnam;

-     To counsel students and their guardians on the advantages of studying at YU;

-     To support joint projects, lectures, symposia, seminars, workshops, conferences with VNUA and other universities in Vietnam;

To cooperate with central / local government organizations.

VNUA and YU present tokens on the occasion of the inauguration of YUICO Hanoi Office

YU was founded in 1815 and is known as one of the three oldest universities in Japan. At present, YU is on the list of leading universities in the world and is one of the best options of Asian universities. YU currently has 3 campuses in Japan which are Yoshida, Kogushi and Tokiwa; 09 graduate schools in the fields of humanities, education, economics, medicine, engineering, agriculture, veterinary, science and the world. There are 09 graduate training schools in the fields of humanities, education, economics, health, technology and sciences for innovation, East Asia studies, innovation and technology management, and veterinary science. Annually, YU receives around 9,000 undergraduate students (including 50 international students) and nearly 1,600 graduate students (including 205 international students) and approximately 600 students participating in the exchange programs in other countries (the number of students joining in Asia programs accounts for 76% of students in total). This office is the first YU international collaboration office in Vietnam, followed by 06 other YU international collaboration offices opened in China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand.

The agreement signing to establish and inaugurate YUICO in Hanoi represents YU's desire to develop long-term cooperation with Vietnam in the field of education at the highest level. It will be the opportunity to make further collaboration between YU and Vietnam's higher education and research institutions in general and between YU and VNUA in particular in the context of internationalization and global education integration.
