Strengthening exchanges and cooperation with academic institutions in Lao PDR

In order to further expand cooperation with its partners in Lao PDR, a delegation from Hanoi University of Agriculture (HUA) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Chinh, Vice Rector for Education and Training, with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Ton, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science and Aquaculture, Ms. Le Thi Bich Lien, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Office paid an official working visit to several academic institutions in Lao PDR from 18 to 23 April 2014.During the visit, the delegation had intensive discussions on the opportunities and possibilities for cooperation in training and research with the National University of Laos, the University of Savanhnakhet, the Northern Agriculture and Forestry College, the College of Lao samphanmitmaity, the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute as well as visited their experimental areas and labs.

On this occasion, HUA signed the Memoranda of Understanding on academic, personnel, and student exchanges and joint development with College of Lao samphanmitmaity and the Northern Agriculture and Forestry College. At the same time, HUA strongly agreed to assist their partners in training and research. In particular, HUA will firstly provide them with comprehensive consultations on elaboration of academic associate, undergraduate and post graduate training programs and lecturers to deliver lectures, thesis supervision and assessment. The University of Savanhnakhet and HUA mutually agreed to replicate the HUA and Liege University Joint International Master Program on Economics and Rural Sociology to the University of Savanhnakhet. In addition, HUA will assist them in construction and provision of related agricultural academic materials and textbooks. Moreover, HUA will support capacity building for their personnel through short-term training courses. Furthermore, HUA will provide consultation on establishment of laboratories, and demonstration areas to serve for agricultural training and research.

As a leading agricultural university and among the top universities of Vietnam in agricultural training and research, HUA has trained over 250 graduates for Lao PDR. Many of them are currently holding key positions at academic agricultural and rural development institutions. The cooperation agreements between HUA and its partners will contribute to enhancing their mutual understanding and commitment and to promote more effective cooperation in the fields of agricultural and rural developments with Lao PDR in the coming time.
