From 21 to 24 June 2015, the 7th International Symposium on Emerging and Re-emerging Pig Diseases (ISERPD 2015) was successfully held in Kyoto, Japan. This event is held every 4 years in the world's major countries. It was organized in the Asia for the first time and Japan was honored to host this 7th Symposium.The ISERPD 2015 drew attendance of over 1,000 participants from approximately 37 countries, including Vietnam. A total of 180 presentations and posters were presented at the Symposium. They mainly focused on Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED), Viral Diarrhea Diseases, trans-boundary infectious diseases (c.f. Foot and Mouth Disease; FMD, African swine fever; ASF etc.), swine Influenza, Porcine Circovirus Associated Diseases (PCVAD), economically significant pathogens in pigs (Mycoplasma, App, Brachyspira, Lawsonia, etc.), and potential emerging/re-emerging pathogens in pigs, etc (more information can be found at the website: http://emerging2015.com). On 27 July 2015, Ms. Penny Skilnik, Director of Special Projects in the College of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada together with her colleague Assoc. Prof. Dinh Anh, an Electrical and Computer Engineering specialist paid a visit to Vietnam National University of Agriculture.The University of Saskatchewan (the U of S) is a top tier research intensive university in Canada founded in 1907 and located in the heart of Saskantoon, the largest city of Saskatchewan province. On 22 June 2015, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) solemnly held a ceremony to announce the approval of the Decision issued by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on appointment of Assoc. In recent years, agricultural mechanization has been intensively developed both in quality and quantity which has made a great contribution to improvement of farm power and labor as well as productivity and reduction of post-harvest losses. However, it hasn’t met needs of market oriented agricultural development towards global integration and still less developed than regional level.On 12 June 2015, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a conference on "Promotion of agricultural mechanization for agricultural sector’s restructuring" at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA).The conference reviewed status quo of application and market of machineries and equipment in agricultural production and proposed measures to boost mechanization in the process of agricultural restructuring towards production of higher added value agricultural commodities and sustainable development.Attending the conference were Mr. Vu Van Tam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hue, Director of the Department of Processing and Trade for Agro-forestry-Fisheries Products and Salt Production, Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien, President of VNUA, representatives of the Government Office, the Central Economic Committee and relevant agencies, and mass media, etc.Graduation Ceremony for Graduates in 2015

On 25 May 2015, a Seminar on Vietnamese Scholar Program 2016 (VSP 2016) – Opportunities and Application Process was held at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). Ms. Do Thu Huong, Fulbright Program assistant, Vietnam and the U.S, the Department of Culture and Information - the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi attended the Seminar together with VNUA lecturers and researchers. Particularly, the Seminar received the attendance of Assoc. Prof. John Barnett from the University of Emporia State, the U.S, a scholar of the U.S Scholar Program 2015 (under Fulbright Program). Assoc. Prof. John Barnett is working as a lecturer at the Advanced Training Program in Agri- Business Management at the Faculty of Accounting and Business Management. He is also involving in a research on Vietnamese fishery policies at the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development.
