On 14 and 15 May 2014 Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Vien, Rector of Hanoi University of Agriculture, led a delegation to attend a remarkable technological event titled “Demonstration and Connecting Technology Supply and Demand in the Northern Area 2014 – Techdemo 2014” held by Bac Giang People’s Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology. On 10 and 13 May, 2014, the Faculty of Environment (FOE), Hanoi University of Agriculture, in collaboration with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), Hanoi, Vietnam successfully organized a training workshop on “How smallholding farmers and local governments can together adapt to climate change” for lecturers, researchers, and students from the Faculties of Environment, Land Management, and Economics and Rural Development.The two day training workshop provided the participants with interdisciplinary and participatory tools designed to draw information from farmers for people who work with farmers, development workers, agricultural organizations and government policy-makers. Given these tools, training participants are expected to be able to establish a baseline, or starting point, of farmers' exposure to climate risks, understand the climatic, and also the non-climatic, impacts on farmers and their adaptation strategies and help bringing these adaptation strategies into land-use planning in villages and local governments. In order to further expand cooperation with its partners in Lao PDR, a delegation from Hanoi University of Agriculture (HUA) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Chinh, Vice Rector for Education and Training, with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Ton, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science and Aquaculture, Ms. Le Thi Bich Lien, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Office paid an official working visit to several academic institutions in Lao PDR from 18 to 23 April 2014.During the visit, the delegation had intensive discussions on the opportunities and possibilities for cooperation in training and research with the National University of Laos, the University of Savanhnakhet, the Northern Agriculture and Forestry College, the College of Lao samphanmitmaity, the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute as well as visited their experimental areas and labs.
